Tranny Shifts Hard
Hi Everybody I'm new to this forum, but i need help I am currently deployed to Iraq but I am home on Leave and my wife has been complaining about the car. First off it's a 2001 Civic EX 4 Door. It Has a D-17 The Trans Is Automatic ... If More info is needed Just Post What Is Needed, and I'll Reply.
Symptoms:
1.When Stopped On A Hill It Rolls Backwards With Ease.
2.Downshifts Hard When Braking
3. And Not Very Often, But Sometimes It Takes Forever To Shift To The Next Gear.
Thanks For The Help

has the car been dogged? you could take it to a transmission shop and have them drop the trans and split it. replace the filter(its internal) and check the bands.
but i say that you changing the fluid fixed your problem.
did the old fluid smell burnt or look really dark..

Also keep in mind that, when you drain the transmission fluid, more than a third of the old fluid remains in the transmission. Therefore, you could see further improvements if you drain and refill the transmission two more times (=flush). Just be sure to drive the car around the block between each drain and refill. Also make sure that you are using only Honda ATF or Honda-recommended ATF. It makes a difference.

Ok So I bought the car less than a year ago.
1. It Has 104,000 miles
2. My D4 Light Is Never Lit Either the bulb is blown or ?
3. The Civic Is Not Hot Rodded
4.THE OLD FLUID LOOKED NTHING LIKE CHERRY JUICE. IT WAS VERY BLACK. AND IT SMELLED VERY VERY BURNT

The PO may have disabled the D4 light to hide a transmission problem. Fix the light to see if you have a transmission code. Also hook up an OBDII scan tool to see if a transmission code is being thrown.
