Throwout bearing or Input shaft Brearing?!

Throwout bearing or Input shaft Brearing?!
I have a 90 civic hatch with the stock 1.5 d15 and 4 speed tranny. There is a noise any time the clutch is engaged and it goes away wnen the clutch is disengaged. The sound goes away after a few seconds, sounds like something is slowing down. One mechanic drove it with me and said I need some tranny work in the way of bearings. The car kas 117k on it. Another mechanic said it is the throwout bearing. I could see reason in both. Your educated opinion is?

RE: Throwout bearing or Input shaft Brearing?!
Well, I've been reading around the forum after I posted this and I can get a 5 gear tranny with 109k on it for 300 from a 90 civic. should I just do that and put in a new clutch? Then I'll have 5 gears. woo hoo How can I check the bearings on thejunkyard tranny to make sure it isn't crap?

I know of a great backwoods shop that quoted me 300 bucks for the swap and a clutch (plus the cost of the tranny).A shop in the bigger city quoted 1400. That is quite a difference. The cheap one does better work also
