Polyurethane bushings ftw! On your 92 i'm sure your bushings are just about dead, on my 99 when i replaced mine with poly bushings it makes SUCH a difference, it's incredible. I got mine from www.philsinc.com for likr $12

and as for the rattling, it may be hitting your exhaust? Do you have an aftermarket exhaust system? I've got custom piping and my short shifter rattles against it in 3rd and 4th gear [:@]idk what to do about the rattling (other than holding the shifter in your hand), but as for the wiggling the poly bushings should take care of it

who installed it? it sounds like the linkage wasn't reassembled properly, or it's coming loose.

sorry to somewhat hyjack.... but my 94 seems to have same problem...
i believe it has a short shifter on it.... and tho inside the car IT FEELS like its hiting something and should be in gear BUT it doesnt keep the wheels from turning free hand BUT if i move it on the tranny it gets in gear just fine.
how do you adjust the linkage?

mine was rattling as well BUT i found out that it was just touching the converters heat shield... so i just pulled it off since thiers just a test pipe inplace....
figure who needs it now it doesnt rattle when i move it around but doesnt want to hold a gear i guess....
