Shifting auto like a many.

Shifting auto like a many.
Is it bad to shift a Civic with an auto tranny manually once in a while. I got a four speed auto here, and I currently do not have the cash for a swap. Once in a while I shift it manully. Is the bad for the tranny in any way? Also, would a tranny cooler help?
Thanks in advance!

not really, but its absolutley pointless... since the only thing D3 and 2 do is just keep the tranny from going up gears. When you depress the accelerator hard enough your car automatically drops a gear for pickup.

Doing so could have been useful on a dodge...it even compression breaks in 1,2,3...but dodge does shift at 6K cuz its ovEr the red line a bit. And I've never driven an auto civic.

Here's how you shift an auto like a many: You need RPM's for speed and torque, when you have the transmission in D4 it will shift at lower RPM's then if you were to shift it manually your self. Basically you let the rpm's get up to like 6700 and shift. If in D4, it will shift under that. Besieds, I cant go faster than like 90 MPH when Im in 4D.

I never really had a long or a good road to top out at, but I can't get the rpm's when im in 4D, I usually have it in 3D, hamer it down so it down shifts in to second, then I get my rpm's. I got up to 104 in 3D once, and that was on a bumpy road, not a freeway. There we have it.
