Popping out of gear

Popping out of gear
Just wondering if anybody else has this same problem...
Maybe 1 out of 100 times i go into 3rd gear, it pops out and my engines ends up reving...does anybody know why it does that? what could be the cause of it?
All the other gears are fine and doesnt pop out at all.

RE: Popping out of gear
If you are talking about the throwout bearing, i don't think its the problem since that is related to the clutch and only touches the pressure plate on the clutch when the clutch is down. I would think that the synchros are going out b/c when the synchro is bad, the hub could slip on the synchro and go back to the neutral position. You could drain the trans fluid and look at what is inside. If there are alot of gold peices in the fluid then the synchros might be grinding away. When you hear your trans grinding that is the synchros grinding. The gears don't grind because all the gears are turning all the time. When you shift the hub engages the gear and the hub turns, turning the output shaft.

RE: Popping out of gear
Well if i suspected my synchros of bieng bad the first thing i would do is drain the trans fluid and check the condition of the fluid (amount of metal shavings). Then i would fill the tranny with some good manual trans oil, make sure its synthetic. You want synthetic oil b/c its thinner and will allow the synchro to mesh alot better with the gears. I know that some1 makes something called SynchroMax or something which is suppose to be good. If your synchros are actually bad, you will have to rebuild the transmission (or have some1 rebuild it). To change the synchros, you have to completely dissasemby the transmission take out all the gears and replace the synchros and put the trans back together. So yea, its not so easy.

RE: Popping out of gear
if its poping out of gear than the only thing it could be is bent shift forks, that is the only thing that will make it pop out of gear.... when you "grind your gears" you arnt actualy grind any gears, you are smashing the blocking plate and dog teeth on the gear( not the actual teeth).
