no idea where to post...speedometer and tach ?'s
hello, i purchased a civic from a friend of mine, and the speedometer works when it wnats to. its a 94 coupe, base model. any ideas what is wrong and how to fix? also, it is the base without tachometer, so i figured id get a 5" tach. only because with extreme base i cant hear the car and know when to shift as good.. are these aftermarket tachs hard to install?
thanks!

Yea I had the same problem with my 2000 ex... I had to get the whole instrument cluster replaced. It could either be that or the speed sensor. What the mechanic did was plug up this portable computer type thing up to my car and it gave the readings of the speed among other things. Then we drove it and when the speedometer died the computer still got the reading meaning it's the instrument cluster. If the computer doesn't get the reading it means it's the speed sensor.

its plug and play, i replaced the cluster on my 95 civic dx that didnt have a tach with one that did, works fine. i recommend getting an after market tach tho, because when i compare the rpm's on my 5" compared to the tach on the cluster, sometimes the cluster is 500 or more rpms off, so id recommend upgrading. just keep the stock cluster and get an aftermarket tach. its very easy to plugin, 3 wires, one for lighting that i hooked up to my cluster lighting, one wire for ground, which is self explanatory, and then the signal wire that hooks up and gains the signal. look for a blue wire at the top right of your engine bay, thats the one to hook it up to.
