yeah, the si has a little closer 5th gear, but you hardly ever use that for performance, so its better to get the ex one for a little better mileage.

It's not really so much for mileage, more for topping out. I cruise daily at about 100 and I'm hitting it between 3000-4000 rpms. Now if I had that extra gear..... I would be loving it. but to get back to my original question, is there an aftermarket tranny somewhere or someone who's made a six speed for theese engines? I assume not, since that was not the responces that I've been getting.... but is there????......

I wonder if it's possible to make an adapter plate of some sort to bolt up a K tranny to a D engine...

You'd have some other problems though. Like fitting a K-series clutch kit and flywheel onto the D, extending the shaft on the tranny to clear the adaptor plate, finding axles, linkage, and mounts that would fit, and a few thousand other things... You could always call up Hollinger and tell them to custom-fab you a 6 speed D-series tranny though.
