Default Clutch for a 99 civic

I have a 1999 Honda Civic Si with v-tec. I was wondering if anyone could recomened any clutches. It is my daily driver but I get on it a lot. I want something more durable than stock but not too much, since it is my daily driver.
Thanks for you help

ACT, Competition Clutch, or Exedy. Stage 1 will do.

Definately make sure you're getting an organic face disc. I know the Exedy Stage 1 is, not sure about the others. However, don't be so quick to dismiss the OEM clutch. Unless you plan on some serious power upgrades, then there is no reason to upgrade the clutch. "Getting on it" doesn't wear down the clutch, but hard launches with exessive slipping do. If you think you do more of the latter, an upgraded clutch is not going to last any longer than the OEM clutch, it might even wear quicker. The only difference is that it has the potential to hold more horsepower than OEM. It also has a little more pedal effort and/or a little sharper engagement. I've seen OEM clutches last over 100k. Is your current clutch starting to slip?

Thanks! But yes my current clutch is starting to slip. I plan on to do some power upgrades but nothing to crazy. I also plan to do some hard launches and going to down to the drag strip but it is still my daily driver. I want a "happy medium" if you know what I mean. Witch OEM clutch would you recommend? And witch is better for my position, the Exedy stage 1 or the OEM? And I almost forgot, why would you recomend a organic face disk?
Thanks for all your help.

i'd get the stage 1. i like the clutch a little stiffer for spirited driving, and plus it leaves you room for more power you might make in the future.

You need a clutch upgrade when you have a serious power increase over stock. An intake, exhaust, shiny new ignition wires will not overpower the OEM clutch. However, if you are looking at any forced induction or a different NA motor with substantially more power than stock, then you will need a stronger clutch.

For your daily driver you definately want an "OEM style" continuous organic faced disc. If you look at ACT and Exedy's clutch upgrades, their stage 1 is an organic disc, but everything above that is a ceramic/metallic 4 or 6 puck disc. Even with a sprung hub, these clutches are going to have harsh engagements and will not be fun to drive on a daily basis. They are meant for the track.

A stage 1 upgrade with an organic disc will hold a good deal more power than an OEM how much depends on the manufacturer. The engagement will be similar to stock, but you'll probably have increased pedal effort. For example Exedy's stage 1 holds 180lb ft Tq and ACT has an organic disc that will handle over 250 lb/ft Tq. If you're making more power than that, you're going to have to step up to the next stage. But like I said if you don't need it the extra holding power, there is no reason to step up from the OEM setup because it's definately the cheapest and will last the longest.

I have a stage 3, and it feels just fine. But no matter how the clutch is, slipping is going to occur. LSD my friend. Look into it.

well the thing is, what if he decides one day that he wants to go turbo?

then he's gotta rip the tranny off again and buy a stronger clutch.

i would only go with the OEM replacement if you are 100% sure you will not decide to make more power than the OEM replacement can handle in the future.
