Benefitcial to play around with stock gearing between trannies?
I am about to rebuild a tranny for my car. I plan on getting all the gears cryo treated, obviously a complete rebuild kit, and possibly file off some of the dogteeth on the blocker rings. I have a few beat trannies that I can use for parts and I am wondering if there would be enough benefit to mess around with the stock gearing. I was thinking a longer first and 2nd would be good so I could actually benefit from the boost in those gears but how would it effect the shifts into 3rd? Haven't given this much thought yet and this is the very beginning of my research so any helpful site links would be appreciated.
BTW this is for a boosted b16a but my ls bottom end is almost done so more than likely this tranny will just see the LS/V-T
Thanks in advance.

RE: Benefitcial to play around with stock gearing between trannies?
I've had both a 4.266 and a 4.4 tranny in my car on a couple occasions and I destroyed em all which is the reason I have all the parts laying around. I think the shorter gearing would be better at the track. Everyone says the 4.4 is better but my experience with the car says otherwise. I need to get it to the track with the 4.266 though because I might have to shift into 5th right before I cross the line which would be no good. I'm putting another y1 in my car this week that I just threw together to cure my destroyed tranny for the time being. Hopefully I'll get some time at the track to find out.
