You should replace the axle because the boot is torn. The CV joint will soon fail without grease and with the grit that will accumulate on it.

Are all issues now resolved? The bad axle was the entire problem?

Yes sir.
The axle wasn't in all the way and it poped out. All I had to do was hit it a few times and it actually POPed into place this time.

Nice. Replacing an axle is much easier and cheaper than replacing a transmission.
