Default auto trans fluid leak 2005 civic

Our Civic SE 4dr sedan has sprung a trans fluid leak, with fluid noted at the engine/ trans split above the shift linkage connection.I have also noted a bearing type whine (a quieter winter tire like sound) also from the front end area.

Are these common problems or one of's?
Car has 88K kms of other wise trouble free history

Thanks in advance

The fix is in:
Replaced front wheel bearings today, bearing noise now gone!
Hydraulic press at place of employment a must to complete this job!
Trans fluid leak will have to wait as it is more of a weep while driving. No drips on the driveway so this is more of an annoyance than anything else.
