Question Washer trick???

whats up with the washer on the camber bolt trick when you lower your car? and when do you supposed to do it?

When you lower a car over a certain amount your wheels go like this: / \ The condition is known as excessive negative camber. The washer trick is a poor man's camber kit.

IMHO the washer trick (as used by many alignment shops) is just fine.

I did the washers, no point in the adjustable kits. Unless you need PRECISE if you are a pro autoxer or somethin, the washers work great. I'm running a little bit out of oem spec negative, which is fine, but if I wanted one more washer and it'd be perfect.

Cool... SO how low do you have to be before the "/ \" is bad and messes up your wheels?

I've never seen negative camber mess up a wheel. However, camber wear on tires really depends on how much negative camber you have and how wide your tires are.

For example,

-3.0 degrees of camber on 205 tires. I didn't have any noticeable camber wear when I sold the wheels and tires 10,000 miles after lowering the car.

oh, i should be str8 then cause i aint goin that low, and my tires are 195
that boy is low sweet & though.

It was. I'm pretty sure the guy I sold it to raised it up... you should have seen his face when he came to see the car in person and realized just how low it was

Anyway, -3.0 degrees of camber is about my limit with MacPherson struts... any more not only looks terrible but would probably wear the tires. Just remember to get a 4-wheel toe alignment after you lower it... camber won't always kill tires, but it takes .1 degree of toe to ruin a tire.

(and if you think that's low, wait until I get my next civic )

^ heh that's why it is fun being on steelies. Nobody really realizes how low it truely is, mine is slammed. Not a ton of threads left on the Ground Controls, I'd say my suspension is down 3" all around. And with steelies I don't have to run insane negative and I don't rub much lol, once I get some rims one of these days it'll have to go up a little bit though... I could run some more negative but it's not worth it. As long as I'm tucking some tire I'm happy, and no way I'd get 17s.


Few inches from ground to side skirt, when I had my lip on I had about 2 inches up front.
