they will fit fine, and you don't need spacers for anything. wheel spacers have nothing to do with the DIAMETER of the wheel

 

I have 17s on my 99 civic and havent noticed any brakeing problems or bad speedometer readings I also have no problem with rubbing but my car isnt lowered yet

 

i wouldnt worry 2 much, even if u do get rims a little bit on the heavy side u wont really notice it and it wont affect ur spedo 2 much either, but it will be a bumpier ride, so avoid potholes if u have any where u live

 

I wasn't talking about the diameter going from 14X5 to 15X7, I was talking about the WIDTH. I wanted to know how the extra 2 inches would affect the rest of the ride, that is a lot more width.

 

It is a lot more width! I have a lowered 94 Civic with Yokohoma AVS ES100 205/40ZR on 17x7 Enkei CDR9 rims and it rides pretty good. It tucks pretty nicely inside the fenders when hitting bumps. It really grips the road quite a bit more now. Sometimes too much! There are timers where the wheel will jerk to one side because of the road.

 

i have 17" rims/tires and i kno my speedometer is right cuz i tested it by going by one of those speed signs, that show how fast ur going like on the side of the road, and looked at my speedometer and the sign and they were both exactly at 30mph

yea i think braking helped alittle w/the bigger rims and accel. lost a tiny bit, aslo better grip

 

u wont need spacers to fit the extra 2in. i have 15x7's and their just fine and dandy. since the wheels are wider, ur car will handle a tid bit better. as for ride comfort, it'll suffer just a little bit. not because of how wide the wheel is, but because of the diameter of the wheel is larger and thinner sidewall of the tire. the difference will not be that noticeable tho..

 

I just added 17X7s to my 03 Civic EX. I lowered it an inch and the ride is great! Less roll, better grip, better braking and much better acceleration. I got Motegi Traklites and they weigh 11 pounds a rim. Less unsprung weight will get you off the line quicker. If you are interested in performance over looks, save up and spend the extra $$ on lightweight wheels.

 

By going to a larger diameter rim, you won't necessarily change the overall diameter of your tires. If you use a lower-profile tire, you could actually end up with a smaller overall tire. If you use ultra-light rims and lightweight tires, you may actually even shave a little weight over your current setup too.

For example, I have 31x10.5/15 tires and 15x8 steelies on my Jeep. My friend has 30x9.5/16s and 16x8 alloys on his. Even though his rims are larger, my overall tire diameter is larger and his rims & tires weigh less.

With a lower-profile tire, one usually experiences better handling due to less sidewall/tread roll-over in the tires. The tradeoffs are generally a rougher ride, more road vibes, and being more susceptible to wheel/tire/vehicle damage from hitting bumps/potholes.
