Default 18's with 2.25" drop?

Hello,
I just bought a 200 civic EX2 nights ago to give to my lil' brother on his 16th birthday (I'm 28). I used to be into the whole import thing for 10 years and now Iam interested in getting him into it. I am looking to start him off by also putting a set of wheels on it and lowering it too. I want to do at least 17's but rather do 18's with 40 series rubber and most of the drops I see are around 2.25". Doesn't this combo seem a touch too extreme? I don't want his ride comfort to be terrible and also I don't want his rims or tires to rub under any circumstances. I have searched the forums for like 3 hours looking for an answer to wheel size and lowering combo but to no avail. Can someone recommend a good combo ... I'm starting to think maybe a 1.75" drop with 17's. Anyone have any pics of any of these combo's?

Thanks for any help you can give. Any other place besides EBAY to buy decent starter level springs for around $100 (ie: drop zone, skunk 2, intrax, etc)

Don't do 18's on a 6th gen, they just don't look right. 17's aren't bad, I've got them on my car with about a 2" drop. I'd say that it would be a good setup to go with for that car if you refuse to go lower than 17" wheels. Look into the Tokico HP springs and shocks setup, you can usually get them for around $350-400 and the ride is great.

18" are too big IMO, also the ride is going to SUCK! your going to feel everything, its up to you. for struts and springs you can go with tokico blues and any spring you want.....i went with KYB AGX's and TEIN S-Techs

So if I go with 17's which are fine by me, can I safely do a 2.25" (ish) drop? Found some Nuespeed Springs on EBAY (used) and also some DropZone for around the $100 and under price for suspension. I just bought him the car and now $800 for wheels so I don't want to get into $350 springs if I can get them for $100. He's not going to race or scca, just drive back and forth cruisin'. I'm just afraid 2.25" drop is too far. Will that rub w/ 17's? Will the ride go to hell? Has anyoen had any luck at all with the cheapo EBAY suspension?

Normally I'd be the guy on a forum saying stay away from cheap s%*t but man I hate to start spending too much.

As I stated above, I've got 17's with about a 2" drop all around, I only run when the wheel is fully turned leaving the driveway. I recomend 205/40/17 tires if you go with 17's... and I second that Tien S-techs with Tokico Blues is a good cheap setup, I'd stay away from just the springs, especially with a lower than 2" drop, your bro is just going to blow his shocks out riding that low on the factory struts...

Hey man if i was you i would get him some 17's and then buy him a set of Tein S-techs....ppl on this forum dont read.He said he doesnt want to spend 300-400 on suspension.....Tein S-techs work well with your stock shocks and struts...they are about 150...pay 50$ more and its a lot better on your stock shocks and struts.... The drop wont be 2.25 but its 1.9 front and 1.7 back.....

thanks man, sounds good and thanks for coming up with an idea in my budget! I would rather do a 2" drop at most but would prefer the 1.9" and 1.7" even more because I just don't want him to go what I used to put up with, with all the potholes and steep driveways and tire rub .... GRRRRRRRR!!!!! [:@]

Thanks again!
