Car and Driver SuperFour Challenge
The Challenge of Four Bangers
Nice article...The most interesting thing was even with $15,000 in engine, $3,000 in suspension, another $8,000 in wheels and brakes most of the cars got through the 1/4 in the mid to high 13's. It took a Lancer Evo with $35,000 in engine and another $13,000 in suspension, tires, rims, brakes to get to the high 11's. I'm sorry, but for $48,000 I'm driving two or three different cars. Crazy money with out limits.[sm=bananallama.gif][sm=gears.gif]

you do understand that all of those mods werent for the quarter mile, right? i have seen guys with just bolts-on, no internal engine work, getting into the 10s with the Evo VIII, in person. those guys are only concerned with the quarter mile, whereas the buschur car is looking to be an overall performer. however, i agree about the pricing. some of those cars, like the STi, 91g for a mid 13 second car? i understand that it isnt made just for the straight line, but for 91g+, i could have a modded viper.
im sure that Levi will tell you, and il back him up, that it certainly doesnt take 50g to have an evo in the high 11s.

gary howell, who owns that neon that won the FWD class, is a member at one of my other forums...he has been teasing us for months waiting for the issue to come out, since hes not allowed to talk about it.

check out my double post..sorry
anyway, gary howell told us that those quarter mile times are so bad becaue they were not on a prepped drag strip..no burnout, etc. just a 1/4 mile stretch of plain roadway, which would account for the awful QM times.

exactly. last time to the track (non-nopi event) there was a hatch with a K20, and no interior, and he was in the high 12s.
however, these guys do a little more than just gut the car and drop in an engine...im sure that they would hammer most normal street cars on the twistie, but unless other cars have the ability to run the same course, comparison is difficult.
