unfortunatly honda is missing something bueautiful on the automatic...
autos dont drop boost when shifting

theroreticly you could do a turbo on your car but your looking at 3000 for that specific turbo kit+ about 2200 to get the auto built to handle it and mostlikely it will no longer be automatic as in you will have to shift your self from 1-2-3-4-5 after all that you will definatly have to get much better cooling for said built auto so plan about another 300 for a good cooler, now a program to tune your ecu and dyno time will run you at least 1300 total.

so lets add all this up
3000+2200+300+1300 =6800 and you only have 160-170hp???

save your self a LOT of money and headache get a high flow header, high flow cat and have a custom 2.5" exhaust built using 2 cherry bombs and a magnaflow muffler it will still flow great BUT it will be low and toned and not"ricey"
also buy a quality cold air WITH a air bypass valve( if you get a cheap one with out a bypass and you or your daughter drive through a fairly deep puddle your buying a motor trust me ive seen it twice this year) finally do a full maintnence on the car(oil change full check over and get a intake cleaning at the dealer, run some good injector cleaner like lucus)also when your at the dealer have them do a full check over always fix before you build

and honestly it sounds to me like you are wanting to build a honda so if it were me i would honestly not do anything to the 2003 but give it to your daughter.go buy youself a late 90s honda civic and have some fun my nieghbor is driving a 96 4dr civic with the stock engine with a ebay turbo kit set at about 8psi ( i know i know most of em are crap) and 200k and it runs and drives great and he averages about 28mpg still

hope this helps you decide

A properly installed turbo should not affect reliability much if at all, that said no turbo project is small it is a major project and should not be taken lightly thats how the car becomes unreliable that and bad parts or a bad tune. My suggestion is keep that car for your daughter keep it stock and buy an older manual civic to boost for yourself. If you put an exhaust on that car your just asking for fix it tickets.

if im not mistaken the lx is making 115 at the flywheel, so thats like lets say 100 at the wheels, if you put that turbo kit on thats 67 hp more than you had before. that is a chitload more than your daughter will ever need.

+1 on not building a d17, they are bleh, d15 and d16 ftw,
