safe hp level

safe hp level
so i know that it matters some what psi u run compared to whether or not ur engine will blow, but i know it also matters more what hp u are running. So my question is what is a safe whp # to run on an internally stock d16z6. Keeping in mind that the compression is good.

RE: safe hp level
Its all about whp, not psi. I had a turbo D16Z6, at 10psi, and I bet it made around 175 whp......but I also have a turbo diesel truck.....and that turbo on my honda @ 10 psi would blow the motors brains out. Different sized turbos make more power @ the same boost level.
D16Z6 can hold up to 200whp SAFELY if tuned properly.....but you need a few things. Walbro 255 lph fuel pump, ARP Headstuds, because the stock studs lift under boost......you also need good injectors, fuel management and a professional dyno tune. A built motor can blow up from low boost with a crappo tune......you want a pro to tune the air fuel ratios so theyre mint......if theyre good, your motor will run great.

He wouldn't have told you you needed them unless they were necessary. I was looking to turbo my D for a while, and I was looking at all that and more. The "Building a powerful streeta z6/y8" Sticky is golden as far as what you want for building up the D.

yes headstuds are necesarry, at the very least you should get them to stop head lift, i think there's somebody over on TurboD16 running close to 300 on stock internals other than head studs. Combined with low comp pistons and Eagle rods you'd be safe for even more.
And i've heard just about double OEM horsepower is safe, so about 200hp like Pete said sounds good

Yeah, having headstuds is a good idea. You can probably get off from not running them for a while, I say no more than a year. Sov's didn't run any on his original turboD for over year without any problems. However, don't take any chances and do it right the first time. ( heheh I should to my own advice, i'm rocking a turbo d without arp headstuds lol... but i will be installing them as soon as this semester ends)
