Default piecing together a turbo

is it that much cheaper than just having a complete kit installed? From what i've been seein, for my goal of 250-300 whp I would be lookin at on an average of $3500 for a complete kit.

yes a kit will run you about 3000-3500 but you said installed... do you mean have a shop intall it? depending on where you go could be as much as another 1000-1500. i have a freind w/ a scion TC and he got the greddy kit for his car at 3500 and ended up paying a full 5k for everything installed. but yes, it CAN be a lot cheaper using used or refurbished parts. i've seen kits pieced together for less than 1k... granted just about everything was used or a no name product but hey... it worked.

i actaully was going through how much my setup cost me the a few nights ago and i think it was like $1500 even or something. I found quite a few good deals though and if tuning doesnt go good it could always add another $300 on there or something, but piecing it together is waaaay cheaper. Read this but disregard the "Missing Link":

The sticky "Piecing Together a Turbo Kit: What You Might Want to Know" is super helpful too, except i dont think it has prices, still worth reading though

^ for most things yes. For like charge piping, i'd say ebay would be okay, just make sure you get "T-Bolts" instead of the normal clamps. I've heard mixed reviews on the Ebay intercoolers though. Some people say they do hte job just fine, other people say name brand is where its at. Same thing about the BOV's. ImportTuner did an article comparing name-brand to generic "ebay" BOVs and i guess the ebay ones were pieces of crap. Definitely dont get the "$800 complete turbo kit" off of ebay though. Pete put it well by saying the shiny ebay manifolds are crap, you want a cast one, usually HF.

if you have a d-series and are gonna go for 250-300hp then its gonna take 3500 if you piece together a kit, if you buy the bolt on kit you will probably get around 200-230whp
