Like I said, if it was just buying rods and pistons and dropping them in things would be so much easier. There's a lot of things that go into building an engine.
You'll need new bearings, might as well put new pumps in, you may need to get the block bored or at the least rehoned, all the clearances need to be in check and perfect, etc. I'm in the middle of mine right now, and trust me I thought it was going to be rather easy when I first stepped foot into it, but it's getting complicated and getting expensive fast.
Oh, and to have someone do it, I was quoted $750 for a basic assembly, LABOR ONLY!
If you're using a greddy kit, there is almost no reason that you can't push 300whp with that B16 and a solid tune.
