Has anyone s/c their b18c?
Has anyone s/c their b18c? I have a 97 civic and i want to get the Type R b18c engine. After doing some research the compression of the heads are too high and it seems like i would not gert much power out of a turbo because i would have to keep the psi levels low. If i put a jackson racing s/c on it would i be able to get more power out of it?
Thanks

The B18C5 is a great motor to boost,I know a dude over on superhonda that had a boosted ITR and was making 350whp@265tq on 10psi pump gas and
440whp@290tq on 15-16 psi pump gas ofcourse it was built to do this but he ended up selling the car for check this like $25,000.It was a 12 second car(I mean 12.0@120mph) when he had it but the new owner has went 11.55 and 11.2 at 124 and 128mph.
I say if you want to boost get a lil thicker head gasket to put the engine at around 11/1 or 10.5/1 and pay a damn good tuner to tune for you.a SC will not give you as much but will produce good tq numbers through out the rpm range.
If I had the B18C5 I would not boost at all,it is one of the best examples of a properly tuned performance N/A motor in the world.Nowhere else will you see a 200 to 220hp(they make power past the readline) 1.8l engine.I would put a nice set of ITB's on it,a nice header, full exhaust, and fuel management.
Nothing like a mid to low 13 second all motor ITR equiped civic

I dont really see the point in getting a Type R engine and lowering the compression. I think youd be better off doing a poor mans type R. B18C1 block with a B16 or type R head. That will lower the comp a bit so boosting will be safer and save you some cash.

Superchargers are not bad, just a different powerband and they do much better with higher displacment engines. To me though it is pointless to try and get big tq numbers low in the rpm range on a fwd car.Law of physics states that weight shifts to the rear of the car more when at a lower speed or stopped. Our cars are not setup to make tq down low.
Now for somebody wanting a quicker daily driver and when 1/4 mile times or beating other setups are of no concern then a supercharger may be the right route
