It doesn't poison you, it displaces the oxygen in your lungs. And just for your information, r-134a is not going to deplete the ozone layer. It is not anywhere near the gas used in auschwitz. Now if you passed the gas through a flame and then inhaled it(I.E cutting torch) you would be closer to mustard gas than you think.
