Default Cheap turbo project?

Hey, just joined the forums(no one have even replied to my newbie thread yet). Me and a friend have a 94 eg civic, and some spare cash laying around. The civic isn't that great, probably worth about 1.5k,and has about 150k miles. We both have DD so we don't need this car at all, we just want something to tinker around with. Anyways our plan is to do a cheap turbo project, and do not have any plans on tuning it. We are going to use a xs-power D-series turbo kit from xs-power.com, which is practically a SSAC kit. Will be running 4-6lbs of boost, using a walbro 255 fp, possibly a FPR?, and would like to get away with stock injectors(remember think cheap). We will use colder plugs, retard the timing, and run 91+octane. Also will get some gauges a/f ratio, boost, FP, any other gauges that would be useful? Will a narrowband A/F ratio gauge at least tell me if im running rich or lean? Remember this car will go un-tuned, at the most we will get an Apexi A/F controller. I know none of you guys would recomend this. Let me know what you think, and constructive criticism is ok

skip the FPR, you're not gonna get away with stock injector, DSM injectors can be had for under $100 with a resistor box/clips, one step colder plugs are good, retarding the time is good, so is the 91 octane, a WIDEBAND NOT NARROWBAND a/f ratio gauge is great, but.....

why the **** wouldn't you get it tuned? It's not gonna run worth a **** without it. Seriously, its the most important part of the whole setup. At the least tune the piggy-back, an OBD1 tune would be better, but seriously dude, you're not gonna get away with it untuned.

Alright so scratch the FPR, and add dsm injectors. I know the narrowbands are really inaccurate, but the widebands are $300-$400 right? What piggyback system would you recommend? I was looking at the greddy e-manage piggyback system and the aem fuel and ignition controller.A good dyno tune is about $500? Thanks Flip

That seems like its a good deal. I live in Austin, Texas and there aren't many tuning shops around here that i know of.

Austin is a pretty big city, look around man, i'm sure you could find a decent tuner. I've heard some good things about AEM F/IC, alot better than the E-manage atleast, but an OBD1 tune is still better than any piggyback. Yeah widebands are expensive, but check forum classifieds (HCF, Honda-Tech, TurboD16, HomeMadeTurbo, ClubCivic, etc) for some used ones. I got mine for like $250, and it'll pay for itself when you don't blow your engine becasue you were relying on the narrowband.

most tuning shops can tune uberdata and/or crome. The programs are free to use and only 200ish for a new ecu and basemap. And i have a set of dsm 450s and resistor box for sale.

Idk if you're VTEC or not, but you're already OBD1 so that link will give you an OBD1 plug and play ECU with a basemap for you. I've used Phearable myself and my basemap has had my car running pretty good, i don't think i've heard anybody thats really been disappinted with them.

So if i just buy that chipped obd1 ill be set, and then just need to get a tune? Im non-VTEC. Yea, there are probably a couple shops around, but most people go to houston for their tune. Greddy civic, Im still gettin the money together and planing everything out, but i will message you in a week or two.

thats fine. Haha ben, my basemap for my s300 kinda sucked. When i got to the tuner, (only drove the car for about 40 min total at this time) the plugs were blacker than michael jordan.
