hey guys, i wasn't planning on doing this, but my sister has a 93 lx auto, and her boyfriend thinks he's going to put a turbo in it. now can you please explain to me why this is a bad idea. i know it's a bad idea, i just don't know how to explain it to him. thanks.

 

Its not a horrible idea, just not the best way to go about boosting a car. The turbo is going to put a lot of strain on that tranny, and chances are, the longevity will be less than desireable.

Tranny. Pete had his auto boosted for a significant amount of time, and to my knowledge, his held up fairly well. But, the motor blew due to other reasons so he never got to see just how long the tranny would last

 

wow. my sister will be happy to hear that. she says she wants turbo because she likes they way it sounds.

 

Than get a supercharger instead. A turbo will be less headache, more dependable (for your sister that is) and ahs a cooler sound IMO

DUMBEST reason to ever put a turbo on a car. $3500 in mods to make the car sound cool, right.

This is what you have to do.

You'll need to either buy a kit or piece together every single piece of the turbocharger puzzle. You will then need a fuel pump, larger injectors, correct wiring, a stand alone engine management system (like AEM EMS), you'll need to tap the oil pan and run oil lines, then will need to make sure that the oil lines don't leak. Then you will need to add a large exhaust, making the car very loud and generally somewhat uncomfortable for a girl to drive. Might as well as stock up on trannies, you'll probably blow one every few months. Your sister will have to check her oil constantly, check her coolant constantly, know what detonation sounds like, know what to do when something breaks on the turbo setup, know when the transmission is starting to slip, then know how to change a transmission when it does finally self destruct. Not only that, but do you think she will be able to handle the car with the turbo setup on it, because every attribute on the car will change when she puts it on.

Do you even know how a turbo works?!

Have I persuaded you to not put a turbo on an 03 automatic LX Civic yet?

 

its a 93 civic man. all the more reason NOT to turbo it
