1983 Civic Race Car I need Help!
Hello All,
I am a new member to the forum and also a first time Honda owner. I recently purchased a 1983 Honda Civic Hatchback that has been converted to a SCCA race car. The car is in fair shape now but I really need to find out exactly what I actually have. The Car has an A20A1 2 liter engine from a 1989 Prelude or Accord I believe. It also has a 5 speed manual transmission from the same car. The engine has been built to full race specifications with 14 to 1 compression ratio, dual Minkuni carbs, all titanium valve train, header, MSD 6A dual stage ignition, etc... (Supposedly 320 HP from the previous owner) I really doubt it though. Car weighs 1460 lbs including rollcage.
My situation is that I really don't know what I can use for parts to interchange with. What model car and year was the 2 liter A20A1 engine used? Is this engine fairly durable for this type of application? What are the engines weak areas? What transmissions will bolt up to the motor. What clutches work the best for the high horsepower engines?
Any help you all can give me would be greatly appreciated. Pictures will follow in a few days, I just purchased a new digital camera but have not had time to even take it out of the box yet.
Thanks
Paul

RE: 1983 Civic Race Car I need Help!
I am located in Kissimmee Florida. My plans are to try the car out in Autocrossing at a local club and see what she will do. I am looking forward to jumping in and learning about Hondas. I have always had Nissans and Porsches prior to this Civic. It should be fun.
I actually just moved a few years ago from Central California to Florida, I was in Cali for 14 years.

The motor you have did come out of an 88-89 prelude 2.0 s Cause that is the a20 morors the b20 is the 2.0 fuel injected. Can you find out where the person you bought the car from got all of the part cause a 14:1 comprasion ratio is high. One more thing is that motor a sohc or a dohc?
