Wobbly crankshaft drivebelt pulley
Hi,
Hoping someone out there have some helpful and comforting words for a much loved 1993 1.5LSi!
When I took it out today, I heard a very faint, dull knocking noise from the left side of the engine. As it was mostly audible from inside the car, I thought it was a leaf stuck in the ventilation system and thought nothing of it. At the end of my 20 mile journey, the noise had increased to be a quite loud, knocking (follwing the revs of the engine) still from the left, almost underneath the engine. It also seemed to be a bit difficult to pull away at junctions in first/second gear.
My partner looked at it with the engine idling and noticed the crankshaft drivebelt pulley was wobbling.
It has 116,800 miles on the clock and has started every time in the two and a half years I have had it. The only major trouble has been a leaking radiator which caused the engine to run completely dry but seemed to have done no damage to the engine. This was some 30,000 miles ago and it has had no engine trouble since.
Does anyone know what is wrong and whether I should start looking around for another Civic?
Thanks

RE: Wobbly crankshaft drivebelt pulley
So which belt exactly is it? A/C alternator or timing? You can adjust the tension on the ac belt by adjusting the mounting screws on the front of the block. The timing belt has a tensioner you can adjust. Not sure about the alternator belt.

RE: Wobbly crankshaft drivebelt pulley
im not too sure about the pulley, but thats exactly what happened to mine when i spun a rod bearing. but then i put a b16 in its place, to later be replaced by a b18c1, so it turned out OK.
