where is the brake light switch?

where is the brake light switch?
I have an 88 civic (360,000 miles) and just recently I've noticed that the brake lights will not shut off. I'm guessing it is the brake light switch. The only problem is I can't find the brake light switch. I know approximately where it should be... but I rarely do work by myself on cars and I don't want to go searching for it when I'm not really sure where it is. Any help would be appreciated (location, tools needed, etc).

RE: where is the brake light switch?
it should be on the brake petal bracket under the dash i'm just guessing i have a 92 hatch thats where it is and you might try going to a parts store and buy a haynes manual and i'm sure someone on the forum has a 1988 civic can help you oh welcome to hcf good to see another clemson fan on here

RE: where is the brake light switch?
ya every car no matter what make or model has always had the brake light switch right on the brake pedal... your rod is probably stuck or spring broken... just try to push the rod around alittle... but either way i dont think it would cost to much to replace.
should be a easy fix for ya tho....

RE: where is the brake light switch?
chk the brake pedal , there is a little plug that goes there , where the brake switch plunger is,, if the plug is missing , the brake switch plunger will stay out as if you have the brake pedal depressed........the plug costs about 1-2 dollars at dealer
have seen it quite a few times on older cars
