washer/wiper switch lever problem

washer/wiper switch lever problem
I have a 98 LX sedan. The wiper lever (on the right side of the column), will not go back into the off position. It seems like there is short circuit.
At first the lever would need me to push it up 1/8 inch to set it in the off position, but as of recent I cannot push it back up 1/8 into the off postion. I now must drive around holding the lever in a certain position to keep the wipers turned off.
Should I be replacing the $120 washer/wiper switch, or is there something else that needs repaired or replaced?
I can only think this happened from pulling the lever back hundreds of times to turn on the wiper fluid.
thanks

Check out my DIY for fixing then so you can see the switches inner functionality. I'm thinking that yours is too far gone to fix though...

I have one that is cleaned and ready to go if you want.
