Default Vehicle Speed Sensor

Hey guys lately my speedometer stopped working and my CEL came on. Pulled code and it gave a 17 which is VSS. Would this be the reason why my speedo isnt working anymore? And how much would a VSS cost me ?

If you have a late 90's model make sure you don't have the common problem of frayed wires behind the intake and blown fuse #15. This can cut power to the sensor.

Locate the sensor on the top of the transmission above where the two CV axles go in. Check that the wire is securely plugged in. The sensor costs about $80 I think. It is simple to replace.

I will check this afternoon when i get from work. So how serious is this common problem and is it difficult to repair?

Yeah, as mk mentioned, start by checking whether fuse 15 is blown (click link in my previous post). If it is fine, then replacing the VSS or repairing a bad VSS circuit should do the trick.
