Default valve adjustment necessary?

I'm going through the Hayne's general tuneups list and trying to accomplish everything that I can. It says that a valve adjustment should be done periodically (I forget exactly what they say - every 15 or 30k I guess). My question is whether this is really something that is recommended even if the engine sounds fine (I also ran a vacuum test off the intake manifold which resulted in a clean reading). I appreciate any thoughts on this,

Andy

I waited to do my valve clearance adjustment until I changed the timing belt. Unless you are experiencing problems, you might also be able to wait much longer than 30K mi. Others may have a different opinion.

On my 6th gen, the owner's manual recommends a 1 time valve adjustment at a pretty early mileage and then only as needed after that. From what little I've read, there should be a clicking or ticking sound if the valves are not adjusted properly. But certainly RonJ's advice is good b/c it requires the removal of the valve cover and the timing belt cover which then means that you really ought to get a new valve cover gasket etc.

Thank you guys. I don't have much, if any, engine noise, but I will be needing to change my timing belt soon. Maybe I'll try my hand at an adjustment at that time.
