tranny issues
Whenever I shift my 98 Civic EX into 2nd, as I let out the clutch and give it gas, a loud noise will come from the tranny, and it will slip out of second. It feels like it's not engaging correctly. What do you guys think? Bad clutch or syncros? Thanks for the assistance. By the way, it only happens in second gear.

Definately something that is coming from inside the tranny if its popping out of second. If you say it makes a noise, is it like a loud buzzing sound? If it is, you may have burnt your tranny's synchros. Not having fluid or just extreme high speed gear shifting all the time would burn the sync's. If I were you and my tranny was slipping out of gear and making weird noises, I wouldn't even second question that something isn't wrong with it and just get a new one. Popping out of second gear is a problem that is not good.

Yea, popping out of any gear is the car trying to tell you something. Basically this is how it goes :
Civic: "Pop out of second, GRIND, BUZZ, ERRRRR"
Translation: "SCREW YOU, can't you see I'm old and overworked? All I want is to be put in an old folks home where young nurses will wipe my *** for me!"
So yea, just get a new one and save yourself some troubleshooting. Later man.

Yea, new tranny. You can get them for Honda's cheap from a junkyard, small shops around your city/town area. Just look in the phone book or on the computer for places that deal with japanese auto parts. You can get a local mechanic to put it in for no more than $400 or if you know someone who can do it for you, even better.
