Unhappy Tranny Or Clutch???

So i have a 97 civic hx with a sohc d16 motor. This car is my baby but she now has over 200k miles so now i expected her to start breaking down but damnn lol. So over the past 2 weeks i been hearing a sound that i can only describe as a chirping or almost a lil grind and my brother who is a mech has never heard this b4 and could not figure out wat this was he figured either the tranny or the clutch was going. So i been driving it like a dumb *** and it finally blew on the freeway i heard a loud bang and my car jerked really bad followed bye a grinding noise. My car can no longer go into gear and it dies even in neautral unless u press the clutch in. Even if u press the clutch u still hear a grind and its louder if u press the gas. Is this the transmission or the clutch? The tow truck driver said my cv joint was also out as he tried to get my civic off his truck wich i can say was hard to watch as he pulled off my bumper cuz my car is lowered 1 inch off the ground. please help! if i can figure out wats wrong than i can just do my own work. plz help i miss my baby

Get under the car and check for broken axles, but they can break after the transmission seizes with the car moving. What you describe really sounds like a blown transmission. Can you push the shift handle into gears with the engine off? If not the shaft in the tranny is probably broken, that's what happens when the bearings fail entirely (after giving you plenty of warning by getting noisy first). A clutch won't blow up just driving on the freeway like that. If it were the clutch, the transmission has to come out of the car anyway to check it.

Post pictures of the transmission where each axle inserts into the differential.
