RE: too much oil now sluggish peformance!
Nonetheless, until we know how much excess oil was added, it is safest to err on the side of caution and recommend that the excess oil be drained as soon as possible.

or rather than draining the excess oil, i'd recommend that all the oil be drained and refilled with 3.7 qts or so since the filter will not be changed.
of course, i'd recommend that you start with 3 qts and then add 1 pint more at a time to double check that the level is within the max to min range.

if you just replaced the oil..... why would he need to use new oil.... just drain it and put it right back in... as long as you use a clean pucket or oil pan then jut refill it and THIS TIME... dont put it all in.[8D] do little by little till you have it pretty close...

I would definitely drain some out to make sure you are at the correct level. If your oil is frothing like a rabid dog its definitely overfilled.
As other people mentioned too much is the same as too little. Why chance it?
Draining oil is easy, if you can open up a soda bottle while lying on your back you can drain your oil.
Spend $50 on a small craftsman metric socket set and you will be golden for almost all repairs on your car. I swear my old honda only consisted of 10 and 12mm bolts (the occasional 14mm) and that god-forsaken bottom pully bolt (Blah, hated that thing, it hated me too...mutual feelings I guess)
