timming marks
new to the froum but like what I have read so far. My questions about timming marks on my 91 civic. I lined up every thing before taking the belt off but messed it up putting the new belt on.
My chiltons show 4 options for lining up the 3 timming marks but I am not sure which motor I have. I am having trouble getting all three to line up. I was thinking about lining up my crank then turing my cam pulley untill #1 is at TDC leaving the cam marks as close as possible.
If I my disrt. and crank are lined up and my cam is close, will it work?
Where would I look to find out which motor I have?

RE: timming marks
the engine code is right next to the exhaust manifold on the left. its on a little flat spot on the engine block. as for your timing, there is a little hole on one of the cam retainers, and there is a little hole in the cam. if you line them up, and drop in an allen wrench or something that fits pretty good (dont force it in, but it shouldnt be too small) then the cam is at TDC. then just line up the single mark on the crank pulley with the timing mark, and throw the belt on. and it you get the timing of it will run like crap if its off by 1 or maybe 2 teeth, any more, and it wont run at all. good luck.

RE: timming marks
I was able to find the engine code. Thanks it was just where you said it would be. The engine code I have is not shown in my chiltons. The car comes out of Vancuver, Canada so maybe the chiltons isn't going to work here.
