timming issues?
o.k. so I get my block and head back, completely reassemble my engine and put it in the car. I can hear louder than usual ticking noise coming from the engine. I figured since i just had a valve job done, i need to adjust the valves. I adjusted them just as the haynes manual says to. Start it back up and noise still there.... I also have a breather filter on my valve cover and see it smoking (wasn't doing it before rebuild) and put my face by it and it smells like unburned fuel. Everything on the engine is new, head, intake, and exhaust gasket, pistons, rings, rod and crank bearings, all seals, etc. I hope you all have ideas before i got to dish out even more $ on this car. The car is idling high but i'm not going to mess with that until i fix the other issue first.... and yes, i torqued everything (intake, head, etc. to specifications and in the right sequence... i actually used a check list. Thanks again in advance.

RE: timming issues?
I am an idiot... I didn't read far enough into the book... I had adjusted the valves to the "Valve to guide clearance" and didn't see the "valve adjustment specs"... Go ahead and laugh. I had the valves set at 2 thousands Which is the valve to guide clearance and not 7 thousands for valve adjustment... I don't think i could have been any dumber. dumb but happy
