Default Temperature Problem

I just bought a Civic 99 Ex. One problem I have is that the temperature needle goes all the way up in seconds, even though the engine is not hot. I suspect it to be a bad temperature sensor. Where is this sensor located? Thanks.

Not too sure about the newer models but mine is close to the thermostat housing. Be careful if you remove though. Make sure engine is cold.

there is a one wire sensor sticking out right below the distributor. chances are, you have a wiring issue between that and your cluster.

OK. I found and replaced the temperature sensor and that did not fix it. The neddle is still going up all the way even when the engine is not cold. I guess it is a wiring problem. Any ideas how I can troubleshoot it? Maybe measuring a voltage or resistance en respect to ground? Thanks.

most of the guage issues I have seen are due to a bad ground. you might want to doublecheck all your grounding

Ok. I found the problem. Appearently when the previous owner installed the carbon fiber trim on the cluster, he damaged the temp gauge. What I did was, I resoldered the connections and it got fixed. Thanks for all your help.
