Talking Srs light issue and i am an idiot

Ok so in all the years i have been a member of this forum i have never asked this question (no idea why) but my srs light came on in my car about 6 or 7 months in to my ownership of the car (at around 70k miles now has 160k lol) and the freaking srs light has been on the whole time.... Now i found out how to turn it off and do the diagnostic on it but here is the thing... Since the light has been on i have been in 2 accidents (one major hence the multi colored) and am afraid if i reset the system my airbags will deploy.... That would be bad and if my airbags blow then i will not replace them... As i get older i am starting to think if i get in a bad accident then i want them to deploy or when i sell my car that will be an issue that i could potentially be sued for in the event of a fatality... How do i fix this???? if i reset the system now will i have a bag coming at me at 220mph? and this light has been on since late 2005 i think its time i have airbags like my car came with dont you?

Why do you believe that resetting the SRS computer will cause the airbags to deploy?

After your accident, wouldn't the insurance company pay for the SRS warning system to be checked?

What year Civic and what SRS code(s) do you retrieve?

I never took it through my insurance i fixed it myself and still have a clean title hell since i owned it it has never seen the inside of a shop. Its a 96 and i am afraid to touch the system.... To me airbags are like taring in to the trans i have never played with them and am afraid i will f it up...

I will do everything to a car. Body, interior, engine, suspension, upholstry, electrical, you name it i will do it with the exception of trans and airbags.

The airbag light on means that a problem has been detected with the airbag system and they may not deploy in case of a crash. The SRS had numerous "fail-safe" features to guard against unintended deploying.

The air bags are controlled by a little computer like an engine computer, and just like the engine computer it has a self-diagnosis code system. I think on a 1996 the codes can be read out without special equipment.

I like your car philosophy. Yeah, pull the SRS code(s) and then reset the computer. If the SRS light and code do not return, you are good to go. You sound like a careful person, so I think you can safely work on your SRS system. Just follow all instructions given in the service manual (see link in my signature). Post codes to get more assistance.
