srs light

RE: srs light
The picture shows the method for clearing the SRS light code on an 01 Civic. If the SRS light turns back ON after clearing, then there is a fault in the airbag and/or seatbelt system. As with a CEL, there is a method for retrieving SRS codes that are read by the blinking pattern of the SRS light.

Thanks for the sequence on the SRS issue. Bought my 97 civic 2 months ago and have been tired of looking at that SRS light. It took me 4 tries. I found that using a toggle switch with two wires connected and pushed in the connector worked really well. All you have to do is flip the switch on/off without having to keep looking down at the plug.
Thanks again blhatfield!

I own a 2001 Civic and my SRS light is on. Took it in for service and I had them sheck it out. I was told that the problem was the Driver's Seat Belt Buckle Switch. They wanted to charge me $345 to replace it. I was thinking to find one at the wreckers and replace it myself. Just wondering if anyone had ever had this problem and if it is a lot of work to replace it.
Thanks
Thanks

i thought all repairs related to seat belts are lifetime warrantied. I'd call the service manager and remind him of that fact. of course, if you did not go to a dealer, then yes, they would charge you. go to a dealer.
btw, this is a really really old thread.

SRS light reset
DIY:
You'll need one of the following:
- SCS Service Connector. (part #07PAZ-001010A and can be purchased from Majestic Honda - H and A Accessories - or locally, if you prefer.
- A paper clip
- Small gauge speaker wire (~14-22)
In the fuse box, under the dash on the driver's side, you'll find the MES connector. (left photo below) The picture on the right is of the MES connector (or service connector)
It is a yellow connector with two wires in it that is plugged into the fuse box, unplug it and pull it down. Once you have done that, you can begin the process of erasing the memory.
PICTURE IS SUPPOSED TO GO HERE< BUT I CANNOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO DO IT!
NOTE: This will only reset your SRS System if what caused it to trigger has been fixed.
1. Turn the ignition off and connect the SCS Service Connector to the MES connector.
2. Turn Ignition on. (do not start the car) The SRS indicator light will come on for about 6 seconds then go off.
3. Disconnect SCSSC from the MES connector within 4 seconds after SRS indicator light goes off. SRS indicator light will come back on again.
4. Reconnect SCSSC to the MES connector within 4 seconds after SRS light comes back on. The SRS indicator light will go off.
5. Disconnect SCSSC from MES connector within 4 seconds. SRS indicator light will indicate that memory is erased by blinking 2 times.
6. Turn ignition off, and wait 10 seconds. Start vehicle like normal and light should come on and go out like normal.
7. Turn your car off, assuming the instructions worked and your SRS light is now off. If it does not work the first time, try it again. The timing has to be perfect.
8. Re-plug the MES connector in. Voila!
Note: IF the SRS light comes back on (assuming you reset the SRS correctly and the light was off) then something is malfunctioning in the SRS System and you'll have to see a dealership or repair shop. (unless you can figure out which system component is failing, on your own.)
