SRS Issue!!

SRS Issue!!
Just randomly last week, my SRS light came on when i started my car at my buddies place. The car was resting for about 5-10 minutes before i started it back up and then the light stayed on. Any idea what this could be about? it's a 2001 LX. has 90k on the odometer. Plus i asked how much it would cost to have it checked and the dealer ship wants 100 bucks just to plug it in and check it!!! What a rip off. Any help would be great.

RE: SRS Issue!!
I'm sure there are many ways to deal with this type of issue. Others can correct me if I am wrong, but usually the srs light code is not detected by these obdII scanners sold over the counter. Maybe a parts store has a more sophisticated scanner that can read the srs code.
The rate quoted by your dealer is pretty close to standard. I've heard $90 usually to read codes. So the quote is pretty close.

Yea, i brought it to a shop and they tried, didn't work. They said Honda only has the scanner to read the codes, i'd be lucky if i found a shop that had one....ugh it's annoying lookin at that light.

if either of you really are annoyed, you can remove the fuse and it will turn off although your air bags won't deploy, but with the light on, it might not deploy anyway. another option is to remove the cluster and take out that bulb. of course, neither of these solutions actually deal with the main issue which is something amiss with the air bag system...
