Speedometer Sometimes Not Working...
hey guys, for the last few months my speedometer has been acting really goofy. like 3/4 of the time it wont work, then occasionally itll kick in and bounce up and down, sometimes staying, sometimes going back. also i think because of that, my cruise hardly ever works. the only time it really works is when the speedometer does. now im wondering since my throttle position is bad, would this have anything to do with it? im assuming not, im guessing its a sensor, but if you guys could let me know what you think id appreciate it!

First what happens when it DOESN'T work
When speedo doesn't work, does the odometer work?
You have 3 possibilities with the speedometer troubles...
If the speedo doesn't work AND the odometer doesn't work and the same time, it's the speedo sensor located on top of the transmission.
If the speedo doesn't work but the odometer DOES work, then it's either the electric signal (wire) from the sensor to the cluster or the cluster itself has gone bad.
So, it's either the sensor, wiring, or cluster. My money is on the cluster, since it's a common issue.

RE: Speedometer Sometimes Not Working...
For background info, the speed sensor sends and signal to the cluster which is used by the speedometer and the odometer. That's why if only one is malfunctioning you know that the sensor is still okay.
Anyways, being that it seems that your sensor is still okay, you'll have to fix the gauge itself. The easilest way to do this is to replace the entire cluster (which is the set of gauges). Or if you want, you can replace just the center speedometer gauge.

ya just replace the cluster... try to find a cluster that has at least CLOSE to the milage your car has and take pictures of the 2 so you can prove the milage is realy......

What year civic? All EG (92-95) clusters are interchangeable WITHOUT modification, just plug-n-play. I believe the same goes for EK (96-00) clusters, but don't qoute me on it.
