speedometer problem 98 EX
Just bought this 98 ex for my daughter. A day or 2 after having it homethe speedo started to have issues. It either works, or stays at 20 mph and the odometer does not work. The car has 150k. The problem is intermittent but it doesn't work more than it works.
Any help appreciated.

RE: speedometer problem 98 EX
98 is OBDII you should get a Check Engine Light ....But it does sound like the speed sensor ...
Mine comes and goes once i have driven over 50+ miles , and it comes and goes every couple seconds , causing the torque convertor to act wierd in what feals like it kicks on then off ... do u get anything like that when it comes and goes ????

Check engine light is on. We took the carto Advanced Auto computer said is was fuel related like a loose gas cap. Checked cap OK. Engine light is still on. I can't answer the torque conv. ? I don't drive the car it's my daughter's. Should I just spend the $100.00 and change the speed sensor?

RE: speedometer problem 98 EX
I just bought a 98 HX and the speedo was doing the same thing. I did some research and found on msn.com that a common problem with the 98 and 99 models is the engine wire harness can short out under the intake manifold and cause the #15 fuse to fail.I replaced the fuse today and the speedo started working fine immediately. As far as fixing the problem permanently- well, I haven't got that far yet. You can at least give that a shot and see if it helps. And if you take it farther and find a permanent fix, let me know!
