Default Speedometer help

Hey i have a 98 civic LX and the speedometer and odometer seems to have a problem. Just randomly the speedometer will stop working and stay stuck at 20mph and just bounce up and down slightly. Also when this happens the odometer and tripometer stop working as well. I know these are electric speedometer. Does anyone know what the problem could be. It will usually not work when i start driving then work after like 15-20 miles then stop working again. Thanks Richard

Does it fix it's self if you tap on the front cluster glass?

Don't jump to conclusions yet. You're right, there is no mechanical link between the speedo and the speed sensor, but that doesn't mean it has to be the gauge at fault. You may have a problem with the sensor itself or perhaps there is a short somewhere between the sensor and the gauge. There could also be a problem with the wiring harnesses. Before you do anything, make sure the underdash fuse looks good and is pushed in all the way in.

I've got a 1998 Civic HX that I recently bought and it started doing the exact same thing. The speedo will work then it will hit 20 and bounce and after it does this the odometer quits too. Sometimes it works and somtimes it doesn't. Its really getting annoying and i'm sure the mileage on the car is way off now. Hope someone can help. Thanks,
Ryan
