Question speedo swap ???????

hello everyone, i would like to know if anyone has tried to swap a speedo and been able to use their original odometer setup in a used cluster? i have an 03 civic with 30k without a tach. i would like to swap it for one with a tach but am not sure if i can take my odometer and install it in the new one? can this be done? i called the dealer and of course they can get it done by sending it out to get "calibrated" for a substantial fee of course...well i bought the honda to save money not spend it . if anyone has the answer or atleast a idea please let me know . thanks bruce

you can pull just the speedometer gauge out of the clusters and swap them so that your old speedometer is in your new cluster

I just realized you have an 03 Civic, and I didn't think about that. I know on 92-00 Civics you can just swap out the speedo, but i'm pretty sure you can do the same thing on the 03.

dito... not sure about a 03 civic....
problem is i believe those are electronicly displayed...
so maybe your computer keeps the milage or maybe the milage is just saved in the cluster.

you could visit your local honda dealership and talk to there service guys around the shop im sure they would know how the milage is saved.
easiest way would be to buy a cluster and slap it in your civic and see if it works and keeps your milage or not.

Default electronic cluster

just got a cluster off ebay and it plugged right in . unfortunately i am unable to change the odometer to reflect my true mileage. i spoke to a tech at the dealership and they can send it out for a couple hundred bucks to have the new one calibrated to my miles. i'll post more info if i can find a way around this issue. thanks for the help. bruce

just keep your original speedometer and write the milage down on the new cluster and date... that way you can at least keep it so YOU KNOW and can kinda prove it, just depends what the original milage is and the new clusters milage says...

also do that and for even more proof take a picture and set your camera to the date stamp on the picture so that you can prove you took the picture a long time ago.
also you could take a picture with both clusters in the picture. put the other cluster on top of the dash and get both clusters in the picture.

that's what i would do at least if i were in your situation

ya i took pictures myself when i swaped out mine...

and you can always just keep looking on ebay for a cluster that has close to the same milage and try to win it.... they are always on ebay with different milages.. just keep an eye out.
