If the speedo and odometer don't work:
A. COMMON: It's the Speedo Sensor on the transmission
B. RARE: The gear inside the transmission is broken
C. RARE: The wiring has a short somewhere

If the speedo doesn't work and the odometer works"
A. COMMON: It's the gauge in the cluster
B. RARE: The cluster's wire paths are messed up

The speedo sensor is on top of the transmission.
Now, this is a manual transmission so it'll look a little different. Plus, the starter isn't there either.

The label on the trans would be facing the front of the car.

The pictures show how to troubleshoot (with a multimeter) and, if necessary, to replace the speed sensor.
