Default Somethings not right car idling around 3500rpm

Its a honda prelude 99 ( know its not a civic ) Its around 3500rpm going about 70mph. That doesnt seem right at all. I know my 07 civic was at around 2800 at 65mph. Is there something wrong with the car cause it seems to run fine.

Forgot to mention its a 2.2 vtec and its redline is 7400rpm compared to the civic 07s 6800 redline. Could that be why its different?

I don't know if this helps But I usually drive at 80 mph on the higway here in California I own 2 cars
(There are two different cars Prelude vs Civic)

1. 1994 Accord Ex Rpm about 3
2. 2000 Civic Si Rpm about 4 1/2

Its a manual. It has 69000miles on it but it has been sitting around for 2 years. It just seems a little high. Cause my friend has a hyundai accent 04 auto it idles at like 2500 going 70 but if you try toaccelerate faster it jumps to 5500 causelack of power hahahaso I just assumed it was cause that was an auto.

So do you think its fine going 70 at 3500 rpm? Also the clutch is pretty hard to push downand its hard to feel it engage. Do I have to push the clutch down all the way with this car? cause I have gotten it started up without it all the way down. I know with my civic I had to have it down all the way but the clutch was so light and easy.

well just for technical reasons, a car is not idling when you are driving it... and also, the engine RPM will not change if you are driving a manual at a given speed, when in gear. For example if you are doing 70 and your RMP is 3500, it will always be that high, no matter what you do as far as a tune, or maintenance because it has a mechanical link to the wheels, unlike an auto that uses a hydraulic link. If it has a different model transmission, then that could be the issue, if not, then that is the way it was intended to be. Also if the clutch is hard to push down does not mean much on its face, but if it is hard to tell when it engages, then it could possibly mean that the clutch is going out; it could be slipping. The best way to test this is to drive at 35 in 4th, and floor it, if the RPM goes up and only accelerates slowly, then you could possibly have a worn clutch plate (there are other ways to test the clutch as well). If so, replace the clutch and see if that changes anything. Hope that helps buddy.

when your going a certain speed and your at a given RPM it's becasue of the gear ratios in the transmission... different cars and engines use different tranys..... resulting in different RPM's at a similiar speed
