Default shifter assembly

Well, I was going to change my shifter to the B&M dual bend one today and the bushing aswell to the energy suspension one I got sitting around. But everything is so rusted under there it's just a mess. I tried looseningone of the two 12mm boltson the bushingplate after drenching everything with pb blaster overnight, but the plate just bends with the nut. Very frustrating because I don't want to brake that plate, but want to get this job done. I've been putting this off for awhile now.....
I'm thinking maybe I need to buy a new one because this ones sotoast it's just one big flake of rust. But I dunno if it's possible to just buy that small piece of metal w/out haveing to buy a whole new set up. I also want to buy new stainlesssteel bolts and nuts for everything down there aswell. You think I could get one from autozone?

Heres a pic I took while I was under there, it's not very good because of lack of light and the flashlight only heightened one spot. The other is a better pic taken off a DIY on here of a 5th gen I believe, little different but mostly the same.

you'll have to order another bracket if that one is unuseable, parts places prolly won't carry that. just look for it in junk yards. and stainless hardware will be fine if you have a big rust problem from where you live.

it's part 17, stopper, and it's safe to order from them, i've ordered from them before and had a great experience.

so you havnetg got the whole assmebly out yet? You're gonna wanna remove the linkage and take the whole thing out, its SO much easier to work on when you're not under the car (i just did mine a week or so ago). And btw the two bolts on eitehr side of the know itself that are visible in that second picture, they are just going to spin unless you hold the other side of them with an open face 12mm wrench (if i remember teh size correctyl). They are like flat bolts that are rounded, so you cant grab them with a socket, idk, hard to describe, but an open faced wrench will hold them so you can unbolt that plate. Hopefully you see what i mean once its all out. Good luck with the rest of it, and as for your first question, i dont think auto parst stores would have that part in stock, they'll prolly havta order it for you.

lol so coincidentally i just checked my thread about my short shifter problem and Tony put this link up for me, he said to replace my bushings since i'm alreayd under there, so Live_4it i'll suggest that to you as well. The bushings he suggested replacing are the exact ones you are talking about. Check this link out, click on "Shifter Bushings": http://www.prothane.com/pages/productguide.html

Thanks for the link and the info ej6, very helpful

Flip: will it be able to drop without me taking those bolts off? I focused on those nuts (12mm bushing plate, stopper) first because I thought they would be the toughest to get off.

Oh also I got a blood blister while I was trying to set the jackstand and drop the floorjack at the same time. It wasn't that bad thankfully bad you never realize how much you use your pinky untill you can't. It has healed quite a bit since a day ago,I think because I didn't pop it.

Flip: yea, I got one bushing in the front of the shifter linkage already, I put that in when I put my header in. But couldn't get to the shifter assembly with just the front up on ramps so I decided to do the shifter and other bushing another time. Was going to try to get that done now but as you can see haveing some dificulties with rust.

I did notice a difference with just that one bushing in though, a lot stiffer more agresive feel.

if the bolts are REALLY stuck you might be able to just buy a whole new d-series linkage assembly cheap, anything from a 92-00 civic will work
