Is it safe to shift the car while in drive?
Well my friend told me that If you shift to neutral while moving you can get better braking on an automatic. Is this true and is it okay to shift the car to neutral while its moving?

It doesn't hurt anything, but when you shift to neutral the drag from the motor goes away, making it harder to stop the car. So the whole premise of what your friend said is wrong. Stay in drive at all times while the car is moving forward.
Also when in neutral the engine has to burn gas to stay idling. While the car is rolling forward spinning the engine with your foot off the gas pedal, the fuel injectors are completely shut down.
