Default rev limiter problem

i was driving the other day and the car was doing great. out of the blue my speedometer started bouncing all over the place, between 15 and 60 mph. go to shift into third and punch the gas. when i hit about 6500 rpm the rev limiter kicked in. i normally can take it to 8400 rpm. so i did a couple of tests, i took it 8200 rpm in first, second, then in third. it did fine in first and second but same thing in third (shuts down at 7000 rpm. on my way home i punched it at the light and the rev limiter came on at 7000 rpm in second, third, and forth gear this time. i am assuming that the speedometer and the rev limiter problem are tied together. i am guessing it is the speed sensor in the tranny that has gone bad or is going bad. need some input. thanks

Isn't redline at like 7000? Anyway, how fast were you going when you did this in 3rd?

rev limiter on a b18c5 is 8400 rpm.....a new update.... my car finally coded out with a 17. the manual says it is the speed sensor that is faulty. i am going to the acura dealer after work to pick up the sensor for $131.00. i'll let you know if it works

a lot of money to just throw parts... id say test the sensor... ( backprobe it and see how shes doing with a lab scope, or volt meter)
