Default Removing 2006 Tail Lights

I was trying to help my friend change his left tail light today on his 2006 Civic and we just couldn't get it out. I tried searching but couldn't find any tail light removal information. I lifted up the trunk carpet, removed all the nuts, removed the wires, tried hammering the back of the light, tried lubing it, tried prying it, but it would not come out. There are pegs on the bottom of the light that go into these holes in the chassis (which I think is the cause of our problem) but in order to pop the pegs out I would have to lift the light up then pull out; but there isn't any room available to lift the light up. Any help would be appreciated.
