Default Rattling noise

Hey guys. I'm kinda panicing right now because my car sounds horrible. Okay to start I have a Honda Civic dx 1993. It was low on oil and I drove it anyways cuz I'm and idiot. So anyways, it ONLY had ONE rattling noise when it was at high rpm, like 5 or so. But then I guess I burned too much oil, plus I have a minor leak, so I almost ran out. That's when it rattled really bad. So I put some oil in from a gas station that I was near. But the car still rattles and it sounds like its coming from the engine side of the car. And also it started rattling when I push the clutch in. Or when I take it out. So does anyone know what happened?

A more detailed description of the sounds location would really help out. Which side of the engine bay? Can you tell if its from the head or block? Could be any number of things.

As mentioned, you need to pinpoint the location of noise. You can purchase an engine stethoscope for about $3 from Harbor freight Tools.

Okay I checked it and it sounds kinda like the noise is coming from my alternator/timing belt area, or from inside the engine itself.....

Check the A/C idler pulley by removing the A/C belt.

You need to precisely pinpoint the sound. Is it coming from the alternator or power steering pump? If so, remove the belts one at a time to verify.

I don't have power steering either. But i don't think its a belt because its way too loud to be a belt. It sounds like metal hitting metal and i think its coming from inside the engine

One possibility is a bad bearing in the alternator. Pull the alternator belt off to see if the noise goes away. If that doesn't work, the you may need to remove the crank pulley (difficult) to check the water pump.
