Rattle underneath car in reverse '00 civic
whenever I go in revese and accelerate it sounds like some metal is rattling. Not sure if it's related to exhaust/cat converter, but it's annoying. Only happens during reverse and never in any other gear.

Check out the heat-shields underneath the car. They're located between the exhaust pipe and the underside of the car. They're held on with 10mm bolts. You might just take them off completely, they don't serve much purpose and are just annoying. You might need to use a wrench or ratchet wrench to get the bolts off without removing exhaust piping. There's not really enough room between the bolt head and exhaust pipe to use a plain socket wrench

i have some input. do you have a short shifter?, because it could be the linkage touching the exhaust and that is causing the noise. im just suggesting this because my shift linkage is now touching the exhaust heat shield but only in fifth and reverse.

^ mines in 3rd and 4th that could be it, but heat shields are notorious to come loose. Most can just come off with no worries, i'm a little weary about removing the one below the gas tank, btu it shouldn't really matter.
